I grew up in Alabama and have a great appreciation for good Southern cooking. Many of my fondest memories are associated with food. One of my favorite times was being with my family, sitting in lawn chairs on my Grandparent's farm shelling peas, snapping beans or shucking corn. All of us together, talking, laughing and preparing these wonderful foods that we would get to enjoy together. The cows mooing in the background and chickens clucking made for such a peaceful afternoon. After graduating from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, I returned to Huntsville to work for the City of Huntsville Water Quality Lab. I spent my days in a lab coat and tennis shoes making sure the water was safe to drink for the residents of Huntsville. In 1994 I moved to Lynchburg and had difficulty finding a job in my field. I ended up taking a job in the food service business and haven't left it! I joined the USPCA (United States Personal Chef Association) in 2000 and started my own business. In 2004 I completed the USPCA requirements and became a Certified Personal Chef. One of the many requirements is obtaining the ServSafe certification. To obtain this certification I have studied and been tested on the regulations of safe food handling and preparation. To maintain ServSafe certification, I must be retested every five years. Cooking is what I love to do. The creation of a delicious and healthy meal is what I truly enjoy. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching to both children and adults. |
